Introduction to the School of Visual Sciences
As one of the first modern industrial colleges in Liaoning Province, the School of Visual Sciences of He University is the earliest and largest institution for cultivating visual science talents in northern China, and it has a National First-Class Undergraduate major - Optometry.
In recent years, under the broader vision of “Healthy China”, the School of Visual Sciences has closely focused on the eye health to enhance talent cultivation. It has established an education system integrating "Medical, Education, Research, and Industry", focusing on the professional development concept of " building majors in line with the industry, integrating industry and education to improve majors, and concentrating characteristics to strengthen majors", and following a strategy of "connecting with the industry, uniting enterprises, serving employment, and leading entrepreneurship". The School aims to develop application-oriented professionals with techniques and methods for full life cycle eye health management, and provide all-round professional visual function protection and correction services for eye health.
Taking advantage of the Chinese eye industry chain that integrates medical, industry, scientific research, public welfare and education, the School of Visual Sciences strives to promote the in-depth connection between education and industry, schools and enterprises, and teaching and production processes. It has established a high-level faculty team comprising industry experts with rich practical experience and scholars with strong theoretical foundations.
The School of Visual Sciences has over 100 ophthalmology hospitals and optometry centers serving as off-campus practice bases. Additionally, it benefits from high-quality resources, including the National Key Specialty Hospitals, National Blindness Prevention and Treatment Training Base, and the Juvenile Myopia Prevention Base in Liaoning Province. The School has obvious disciplinary advantages and can provide students with a systematic and diverse internship, practice, and career development platforms.
Graduates from the School of Visual Sciences have been employed in ophthalmology departments of major general hospitals and ophthalmology specialty hospitals, such as Ophthalmology Departments of Beijing Tongren Hospital, Tianjin Eye Hospital, and Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center in Guangzhou. They also joined top global companies such as Carl Zeiss, Johnson & Johnson Vision, and Bausch + Lomb. A large number of graduates have taken up core management positions at work, including ophthalmology hospital directors, technical directors of optometry enterprises, directors of optometry center, regional managers, training supervisors, and optical store managers.
In recent years, the School of Visual Sciences stays at the forefront of international trends, building an international teaching and research platform. It has established close collaborations with renowned universities and international institutions around the world, offering diverse opportunities for international exchanges, contributing to advancing China’s healthcare industry and promoting the cultivation of international innovative ophthalmology talents. Students have participated in various international projects, such as training by the International Academy of Orthokeratology Asia (IAOA) Asian Chapter and collaborations with Orbis International, which broadened students’ international horizons and improved their cross-cultural communication skills.

Educational Objectives:
To cultivate application-oriented optometry professionals who have basic theories, basic knowledge, basic skills of optometry and related basic medicine and clinical medicine knowledge, and can work in medical and health institutions such as ophthalmology departments of general hospitals, specialized ophthalmology hospitals, optometry clinics, eyewear companies and stores. Graduates will be able to provide services for the full life-cycle eye health management, including the diagnosis and treatment of refractive errors, eye and vision care and rehabilitation, visual function testing and training, and special optometric examinations.
Career Direction:
Upon graduation, graduates can work in medical and health institutions such as ophthalmology departments of general hospitals, specialized ophthalmology hospitals, optometry clinics, eyewear companies and stores. They will be able to provide services for the full life cycle of eye health management, including the diagnosis and treatment of refractive errors, eye and vision care and rehabilitation, visual function testing and training, and special optometric examinations.
