On September 21, 2024, the 7th International Conference of Genomics on Eye (The 7th ICG EYE) successfully concluded in Shenyang.
The 7th ICG EYE was hosted by He Vision Group, with co-organizers including He University, Shenyang Qipanshan International Scenic Tourism Development Zone Management Committee, Eye Gene Bank, and BGI Research. The International Conference of Genomics on Eye has been held for seven consecutive sessions and has become a highly influential annual event in the field of international genomics. It has established high-level platforms for academic exchange, cooperative innovation, and industrialization, playing an active role in promoting technological innovation in the fields of genes and stem cells, as well as the global eye health development.
Hongying Yang, Deputy Director of the Shenyang Science and Technology Bureau, and Chen Zhang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Executive Deputy Director of the Shenyang Qipanshan International Scenic Tourism Development Zone Management Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the conference.
The conference lasts for two days and was held in a combined online and offline mode. It brought together academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as domestic and international experts and scholars of precision medicine and biomedical science. The attendees exchanged new ideas, trends, technologies, and achievements in the fields of genetics and stem cells, collectively envisioned the bright future of precision medicine.

At the opening ceremony, the conference chairman and founder of He Vision Group, Professor Wei He, delivered a speech. He said, in the wave of global life science and industry revolution, the continuous breakthroughs of gene and stem cell technologies have provided new therapeutics for many difficult diseases. As an innovative technology-driven digital eye health ecosystem, He Vision Group is constantly pioneering and innovating in the field of precision medicine. Relying on the Eye Gene Bank and Stem Cell Research Center, He Vision Group is committed to solving the problem of hereditary eye diseases. In 2023, He Vision Group successfully assisted the first domestic patient with retinitis pigmentosa to receive treatment with the world’s first gene therapy drug, accelerating the rapid development of gene therapy.
In recent years, with the strategic goal of “building a digital Bright City and smart eye health industrial ecosystem”, He Vision Group has actively promoting the integration and development of new technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, gene therapy, and stem cells. It has comprehensively launched a new service model for digital, all-around, full-scenario, and full life-cycle eye health management for patients. Professor Wei He expressed his hope to work together with many experts and scholars, taking technological innovation as the mission, to enable technology gene to benefit more people.

Following the opening ceremony, the "International Forum on Ocular Genomics" was convened. During the two-day forum, domestic and international experts and scholars from the fields of precision medicine, ophthalmology, and biomedical science, as well as experts from He University, engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as advances in research on ocular genetic diseases and gene therapy, progress in clinical trials and applications of gene therapy, the intersection of genes and big data, and new developments in genetic testing technologies for ocular genetic diseases.
During the breaks of the forum, participating experts and scholars visited He University. They showed great interest in several key facilities, including the Eye GeneBank - nationally leading genetic resource bank for eye diseases and related chronic diseases, the Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Stem Cell Engineering, the Liaoning Provincial Research Center of Ophthalmic Stem Cell Clinical Application, the Anti-aging Research Laboratory, and the exhibition area for public education and products related to age-related neurodegenerative diseases.
